What’s Trending In 2019

This year's home design and color trends are moving away from the cool toned neutrals we’ve seen in the past and are going bold! Here are some of the trends you’ll be seeing for your home in 2019:

Rich Jewel Tones

1. Rich Jewel Tones

One of the easiest ways to update your home to keep up with the current trends is by applying a new coat of paint. The new year is all about rich jewel tones and bold primary colors. Hunter and emerald green, while both rich colors, can actually lend themselves to the feel of a neutral throughout your home. Trends don’t change that fast, so 2018’s Pantone Color of the Year, ultra violet, is also still having its moment. An area rug or wall art in these shades are fantastic ways to introduce more color and drama into your home, without having to do a full renovation.

Warm Neutral Tones

2. Warm Neutral Tones

Gone are the days of the cool gray and beige tones in 2019. The new year is bringing in some much-needed warmth to neutral tones. The Sherwin-Williams ColorMix prediction describes their color of the year, Cavern Clay, as “bringing new life to any living space”. Clay and hazelnut hues are warm and earthy browns that are great for bouncing light off to make any room look larger. Lilac gray is an update on the cool grays that have been used in the past. This gender neutral color will work well in any room of your home if you’re looking for a change.

Sustainable & Repurposed Items

3. Sustainable & Repurposed Items

With climate change and lowering our personal carbon footprint in the news, Ashley Dudich, shop owner and home blogger at All The Design, thinks sourcing sustainable and repurposed home décor will stay a top home decor trend in 2019.

Sustainability is already a present theme in many areas of our lives, and I think it's going to continue to trickle into mainstream home decor and design,” she said. “Incorporating furniture and decor items that are re-purposed, reclaimed and recycled are becoming more and more typical in everyday design practices.”

Repurposing furniture found at flea markets is a not only a fun DIY but also creates a meaningful message that what is old can be new again. If you’re not a DIYer, repurposed tree trunks, that are treated and sealed, make side tables, coasters, or even charger plates. Dudich also suggests that you “take a look around your home and consider removing items that are broken, no longer in use or out of style. In the spirit of sustainability, consider what items can be recycled, reclaimed or donated.”

Floral Patterns

4. Floral Patterns

In keeping with 2019’s bold color trends, you’ll notice that florals are getting a colorful update. Gone are the muted, watercolor flowers of the past. This year's bouquets are going to be big and colorful. If you're overwhelmed by too much floral, start with a bedspread, a lampshade, or a few throw pillows. Floral patterns are a good way to add both color and a pattern, while still making the décor feel neutral.

Boho Décor

5. Boho Décor

The updated 2019 version of this trend is about modernizing the vintage feels of the boho vibe. Using vibrant Bohemian décor is all about mixing and matching colors, textures, and patterns. This year, the Boho vibe is all about bringing in vibrant jewel tone colors with soft, curved lines. You can easily update your home for this trend by changing out your throw pillows, tablecloths and runners, or buying some new wall art.

Matte Black Accents

6. Matte Black Accents

It looks like gray has finally met its match with the emergence of black accent pieces throughout the house. In your dining room go with matte black dining room chairs and light fixtures. If you’re looking for a bigger change, you can’t go wrong with black cabinetry or flooring.

This trend will most likely be sticking around, so take your time incorporating it into your home. Just don’t go too crazy with the black or else you’ll go from chic to Addams Family vibes.

Metallics

7. Metallics

The use of decorating with metallic accents has been around for a while now, and they’re not going out of style any time soon. Dudich agrees, “metal accents have become more and more popular in design, and I think we'll continue to see metallic pieces on the rise in this new year.”

In 2018, rose gold was the queen of metallics, but in 2019, you’ll be seeing more copper accents, as well as mixing and matching metallics throughout your home. Mix and match the different finishes with natural wood for an up to date take on this trend.

Conclusion

This is the year to be BOLD. From larger renovations, like updating your kitchen cabinetry to matte black, or adding a little bit more color into your home with some new bedding or wall art, you’ll find that 2019’s home décor and color trends will fit anyone’s new year budgets.
