Q:  What have you learned in your experience as a contractor?

Having worked on many projects, I have learned so much about the ins-and-outs of the home. Not only has it helped me in my own home, but I’m happy to share my advice with others. There are some home projects you plan for and others that might surprise you. For those projects you don’t expect, one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in my career is to always be prepared and stay calm. This will help you work better with your contractor and get the job done.

Q:  What are a few words of wisdom you can share with new homeowners?

This is a great question. I see a lot of new homeowners that are excited and ambitious, which is great. But, I always have to advise that if you don’t think you can DIY a project, leave it to a pro. Projects like electrical work, plumbing and even flooring are likely not suitable DIY projects. Messing it up can cost you in both time and money, and sometimes even pose a safety hazard. Even projects you might consider to be simple, like painting, should be left to the pros if you don’t feel confident you can do a great job. Lean on us, we’re here to help!

Q: What do you hope people learn from this new series?

Homes are an investment, there is no way around that. However, there’s no project too big or small that you can’t handle, especially with the help of a contractor to walk you through it!
